National Council of Nonprofits President & CEO Diane Yentel released the following statement in response to President Trump’s Executive Orders:
“It is customary to see changes when a new presidential administration takes over, especially if there is a change in party. However, many of the Executive Orders (EOs) and actions taken in President Trump’s first week in office are tantamount to disruption to – and, in some cases, targeting of - the vital work of nonprofit organizations throughout the country.
“These orders threaten to unwind decades of progress improving systems for people who have been systematically discriminated against. Executive actions to investigate nonprofit organizations, halt some nonprofit work domestically and globally, abruptly close federal offices and reduce the federal workforce, and eliminate existing federal contracts, among other things, will impact the essential and often urgent work of nonprofit organizations. So too will the chilling effect these actions may have on nonprofits working with some of the most marginalized and vulnerable people and communities.
“Many of the EOs will be challenged in court. In the meantime, the National Council of Nonprofits will continue to closely monitor all executive, administrative, and congressional actions that impact nonprofit organizations and will take appropriate action to ensure these crucial organizations are able to continue their important work.”
