Before presenting April’s Nonprofit Essentials, we pause to recognize and honor nonprofit employees and volunteers who selflessly serve humanity, giving their all to improve the lives of people they don’t even know. The tragic deaths this past month of seven World Central Kitchen aid workers who were simply trying to feed starving people brought a stark reminder for us all about the risks many in the nonprofit sector take every day to help others. Saifeddin Issam Ayad Abutaha, John Chapman, Jacob Flickinger, Lalzawmi Frankcom, James Henderson, James Kirby, and Damian Soból were killed when their vehicles leaving a food warehouse in Gaza were targeted by an airstrike. There are countless others working in dangerous situations, including war zones around the globe, responding to disasters, both natural and human-made, across our country putting themselves in harm’s way in service to others. We honor the bravery and selflessness of nonprofit workers making this world a better place and mourn those who have lost their lives helping others. |
