National Council of Nonprofits Statement on Senate Passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act

After months of debate and negotiations, the Senate is expected to vote today to approve the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” a major tax package that directly impacts the nonprofit sector and its ability to serve communities nationwide.

The Senate Finance Committee released yesterday revisions to the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” a major tax bill passed by the House of Representatives last month that Republicans hope to enact by July 4.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, enacted in late December, cuts taxes on corporations and wealthier taxpayers while imposing new taxes on tax-exempt organizations, including charities and houses of worship.

The House of Representatives voted Thursday to approve the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act," and several changes to the bill are expected. This provides the nonprofit sector with an opportunity to urge Senate leaders to remove several harmful provisions.
