Join us on Tuesday, March 27 at the CUNY Graduate Center for our Annual Meeting of Members. Network with NPCC members and colleagues from the Greater New York area nonprofit community. Participate in our panel discussion, “Building Members & Building Movements: Caring for our People.” In an ever-changing world our communities depend on us to ensure we are there for support. Nonprofit staff are our communities, too, and they need strategies and we need to support them as individuals and through our organizations. This panel will give you these strategies and tools.


Meet the panel:

Moderator - Carmelyn P. Malalis
Chair and Commissioner
New York City Commission on Human Rights

Carmelyn P. Malalis was appointed Chair and Commissioner of the New York City Commission on Human Rights (the Commission) by Mayor Bill de Blasio in November 2014 following more than a decade in private practice as an advocate for employees' rights in the workplace. Prior to her appointment, Commissioner Malalis was a partner at Outten & Golden LLP where she co-founded and co-chaired its Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Workplace Rights Practice Group and its Disability and Family Responsibilities Discrimination Practice Group; and successfully represented employees in negotiations, agency proceedings, and litigation involving claims of sexual harassment, retaliation, and discrimination based on race, national origin, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, pregnancy, disability, and religion.



Cristina Harris, MSW, CHHC

Cristina Harris works within the Center for Policy, Advocacy, and Education of MHA-NYC as the Program and Training Manager. She oversees Training and Technical Assistance contracts that provide professional development services to human service professionals throughout the five boroughs of NYC. Cristina has been designing and facilitating training experiences for social service, youth development, and education professionals for the past 12 years with an emphasis on reflective practice and stress management skills for staff; identification and support for the mental and behavioral health of youth; implementation of trauma-informed approaches; and the key components of effective case management.



Kelsey Louie
Chief Executive Officer
Gay Men’s Health Crisis

Kelsey Louie, MSW, MBA, is the Chief Executive Officer of Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC), the world’s first, and nation's leading provider of HIV/AIDS care, prevention services, and advocacy. As CEO, Kelsey oversees all operational, programmatic, and strategic aspects of the organization. Each year, GMHC serves 12,000 people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS in New York City, the epidemic's largest U.S. epicenter. GMHC brings expertise to both HIV-positive and HIV-negative individuals, offering HIV and STI testing and other, nutrition counseling and hot meals, legal support services, supportive housing, mental health and substance use services, and workforce development. GMHC also advocates for stronger public policies at the local, state and federal level with the goal of ending AIDS as an epidemic in New York State by 2020.



Patricia Swann

Patricia Swann's grantmaking responsibilities cover the areas of Community Development, Civic Affairs, and Technical Assistance. She is a board member of Philanthropy New York, and serves as an advisory board member of Brooklyn Workforce Innovations and the New York City office of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation. She is a former board member of North Star Fund, a foundation providing grants to grassroots community organizing groups, and Central Brooklyn Partnership, a financial empowerment and economic development organization.

Prior to The Trust, Pat directed economic development programs in Brooklyn and Manhattan, and worked for the Office of then-Manhattan Borough President David Dinkins. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Pratt Institute’s Graduate School of Architecture and Planning. She is also a recipient of a Revson fellowship at Columbia University.
