On 20th Anniversary, Hatch, Wyden Reaffirm Support for the Children’s Health Insurance Program

WASHINGTON – Ahead of the 20th Anniversary of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) today reaffirmed their strong, bipartisan support for the children’s health program.

“In a time of polarization and partisanship, especially with issues related to health care, CHIP is a proven program that delivers high-quality coverage to vulnerable children in Utah and across the country,” Hatch said. “During our hearing next month, Senate Finance Committee members will have an opportunity to take a closer look at the program. I will be pushing to ensure action is taken to reauthorize CHIP in a bipartisan fashion."

“Over eight million American kids and their families count on the Children’s Health Insurance Program for comprehensive health care, and Congress needs to uphold its promise to them,” Wyden said. “I share Chairman Hatch’s commitment to a strong, bipartisan, and timely CHIP extension.”

This week, Hatch and Wyden announced a hearing on CHIP funding reauthorization would take place in September. The current authorization for funding will expire on Sept. 30, 2017.
