Thank you to everyone who joined Common Good Vermont and the Center for New Leadership to celebrate our Nonprofit Sector this year! Over 45 nonprofit leaders and supporters united for briefings, meetings with legislators, and discussions on legislation impacting our sector. We started the day with a welcome from Speaker of the House Mitzi Johnson, Vermont’s third female Speaker of the House, and our annual legislative briefing from Senate President Pro Tem Tim Ashe.
Daniel Barlow, Public Policy Manager of Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility, then reviewed key legislative issues impacting our sector this session.
Following up on the passing of bill H.911 in 2018, Douglas Farnham from the VT Department of Taxes joined us to overview key insights about Vermont’s Charitable Contribution Tax Credit.
Amy Shollenberger of Action Circles discussed the state budget process and the role nonprofits can have advocating for bills impacting state funding and went even deeper into the topics in an afternoon session.
Following these legislative presentations, Common Good Vermont and Center for New Leadership celebrated our founders Lauren-Glenn Davitian and Kate Jellema, who were instrumental in shaping Vermont’s nonprofit sector and the field of nonprofit capacity building in Vermont, paving the way for CGVT and CNL’s work today.
During lunch, we hosted a special presentation by the U.S. Census Bureau to discuss the 2020 Census. Click here to see his slideshow and learn about the importance of the Census to the nonprofit sector.
Closing the day, Common Good Vermont and Center for New Leadership hosted an afternoon session reviewing our merger and inviting participants to help us re-envision a vibrant statewide organization that supports our sector! Email [email protected] to learn more and get involved.
