The Nonprofit Association of the Midlands says up to a third of annual giving comes in December, much of that in the last three days of the year.

“Year-end giving is critical to the nonprofit sector,” said Kelly Koepsell of NAM.

But tax reform raised the standard deduction, meaning there's less incentive for millions of Americans to itemize, and make donations. Some groups predicted charitable giving was plummet, but so far that hasn't materialized.
