But it remains to be seen just how influential the vice president's message will be. Nan Madden, the director of the Minnesota Budget Project at the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, said the largest benefits in the president's tax bill go to big businesses and people who already make a lot of money.

"The tax cuts for everyday workers and their families are much smaller, and they're also only temporary," Madden said. She also noted that in order to pay for the tax plan, cuts to health care, financial aid or other programs may be necessary. "That package is not one that leaves Minnesotans better off."
