Nonprofits to Senate: Vote No on Tax Bill, Start Over

Printer-friendly version

Washington, DC - Tim Delaney, President and CEO of the National Council of Nonprofits, issued the following statement expressing nonprofits' opposition to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act:

"Every person in America is touched positively by the work of a charitable nonprofit every day. That’s why it is baffling – and outrageous – that the House and Senate would take action in the tax bills to undermine the one sector of our economy that strengthens lives, builds communities, expands job opportunities, and promotes solutions rather than discord. Both versions of the tax reform bills would depress charitable giving by as much as $20 billion a year, take jobs away from between 224,000 to 264,000 nonprofit employees, and cut federal revenues by more than $1.5 trillion, leading inevitably to massive spending cuts without matching cuts in human needs. Their actions put politicians’ concern for passing something – anything – ahead of the best interests of the American people. It’s time for every Senator to slow down, listen to their constituents and stop this before massive, lasting damage is done. The National Council of Nonprofits urges each Senator to vote No on this bill and start over with legislation that prioritizes people over partisanship and communities over corporations."
