A number of nonprofit advocate groups are deeply concerned about the new form.

The National Council of Nonprofits and the National Association of State Charity Officials fear it will encourage individuals and organizations to hide behind the veil of nonprofit status.

Such abuses could lead to further distrust of the nonprofit sector and affect local individual and corporate donations that are the backbone of local nonprofit contributions. One warning signal: The IRS approved 94,365 applications from organizations seeking tax exempt status in fiscal year 2014. That’s more than double the number approved in the previous two years.
