New Tax Policies Threaten Charities, Report Says

Printer-friendly version

Tax law changes adopted in the last couple of years are threatening the work of charitable organizations, according to a report from a prominent charity advocacy group.

“Significant threats” posed by policies at the federal and state levels are making it difficult for charities to pursue their missions, the National Council of Nonprofits says in the report on how charities serve individuals and communities.

Harmful initiatives, including ill-advised tax law changes, “can take away needed resources, impose unnecessary burdens, interfere with decision-making, erect harmful barriers, and otherwise change laws in ways that disrupt the work of charitable, religious, and philanthropic organizations,” says the report, released September 18.
