New tax levied in GOP overhaul draws laments from churches, other nonprofits

The instruction is especially important for churches, which have likely never before had to file these kind of tax documents.

Prestonwood Baptist, for instance, is the Rev. Jack Graham’s influential church in Plano. Its executive pastor said the change forces the church to pay taxes on benefits like “providing employees with parking spaces" and “obligates us to file federal and state tax returns.”
