New State Offices for Faith-Based Nonprofits

New State Offices for Faith-Based Nonprofits

Printer-friendly version

New York Governor Cuomo announced the creation of a new State unit, the Office of Faith-Based Community Development Services. The Office is to assist and leverage community and faith-based organizations in the delivery of education, health, workforce training, food programs, and social services to communities, particularly those most in need. It is specifically tasked with working with the State Nonprofit Coordinating Unit, run by Fran Barrett, who is co-chair of the National Council of Nonprofits’ National Task Force on Government-Nonprofit Contracting Reform. Legislation is pending in Pennsylvania establishing an Office of Faith-Based and Nonprofit Community Organizations and advisory commission that would do much of the same work contemplated for the new New York Office.
