Keeping charity close to home: Lancaster Locals 4 Locals aims to assist local nonprofits

Anne Gingerich, executive director of the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations, suspects that the concept of keeping charity local will appeal to Lancaster residents.

“Like communities all across the Commonwealth, people living in Lancaster love their local community,” she said.

But, she said, the question people should be asking about nonprofits is not how much compensation their leaders make but rather how much impact the organization is making on the cause for which dollars are raised.

“For example,” she said, “if nonprofits solve issues related to hunger, HIV or world peace, the savings to society would ultimately allow for salaries at many levels.”
