ICANN decision to reject sale of dot-org registry garners praise

Printer-friendly version

The National Council of Nonprofits, an advocacy group that opposed the sale, lauded ICANN Friday for reaching what it called "the only logical decision in this situation," saying in a statement that allowing the registry to change to for-profit hands would have led to increase costs for U.S. nonprofits.

"They validated the concerns that the .org community has had from the beginning," Chief Operating Officer Rick Cohen said in a statement. "We’re glad that the online home for millions of nonprofits worldwide will continue to be run by a nonprofit.”
