Frederick County honors nonprofit community for 'touching lives' of others

Printer-friendly version

When the economy was failing and jobs were being cut, the nonprofit community grew.

The number of jobs in the nonprofit community increased by about 15 percent in Frederick County between 2006 and 2011, while total employment sunk, said Heather Iliff, president and CEO of Maryland Nonprofits.

Even though nonprofit groups faced significant challenges — funding cuts, fewer donations and a host of other obstacles — they strived to do everything they could for the community they serve.

“Nonprofits have been and continue to be the little engine that could, chugging along and growing,” Iliff said.
