“If you care enough to invest your money in an organization, then investing your voice can magnify that impact with policymakers,” says David Heinen, vice president for public policy and advocacy with the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits.
Jon Pratt, executive director of the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, said, generally speaking, donations to various groups do tend to spike after big national events, especially tragedies. But this, he said, is different.
"It's about the evolution of giving," said National Council of Nonprofits communications director Rick Cohen. "In the past, there were a few big brand names for people looking to give.
The Montana Nonprofit Association has 600 members, which is about 10 percent of the nonprofits in the state, she said. And about 47,000 Montanans are employed by nonprofits, or 30,000 if you don’t count hospitals.
With Thanksgiving in the rearview mirror and Christmas around the corner, now is the time that many citizens and businesses across the Magic Valley will show their generosity and donate to local charities and nonprofits.
The last-minute push to fill red buckets happens as fewer people make in-person donations nationally and more give online, said Rick Cohen, spokesman for the National Council of Nonprofits.
