In 2009, the National Council of Nonprofits created the following series of reports as part of its Nonprofit Economic Vitality Center, an online clearinghouse of resources designed to help nonprofits cope with the nation’s economic crisis. Special Report #1: Nonprofit Grant Opportunities (February 23, 2009) This core report analyzes the $787 billion economic stimulus legislation, summarizes the major spending and tax cut provisions, and identifies potential grant opportunities for nonprofits.
Special Report #2: Stimulus Grant Tips and Thoughts (February 24, 2009) This report offers grant information, tips, and considerations - including that the stimulus package offers some grant opportunities, but is not a universal remedy for everyone.
Special Report #3: Whether and Where States Are Accepting & Distributing Federal Stimulus Funds (February 25, 2009; updated March 2) This report reviews how various Governors have indicated they will handle the federal funds.
Special Report #4: Sources of Information Regarding Stimulus Funds (March 3, 2009) This report identifies national and state sources of information about the federal stimulus funds, including official recovery websites that states have established.
Special Report #5: Information Regarding Proposed Changes in Charitable Deductions (March 9, 2009) This report examines the proposed changes for charitable deductions in President Obama’s proposed budget for 2010.

Special Report #7: White House Briefing for Nonprofits (April 14, 2009) To ensure that nonprofits across the country get equal access to information, this report shares insights and handouts provided at an April 9 White House briefing about the stimulus package.
Special Report #8: A Respectful Warning Call to Our Partners in Government: The Economic Crisis Is Unraveling the Social Safety Net Faster Than Most Realize (August 10, 2009) To raise awareness about how severely the economic challenges are hitting nonprofits, this report highlights recent survey findings and fiscal health reports. Government officials need to be aware that many nonprofits are unable to deliver the same level of services, let alone more. Nonprofit leaders need to prepare individual nonprofits for a protracted financial shortfall coming at a time when individuals and communities seek more services.
Special Report #9: Strategies Being Used by Nonprofit Leaders to Cope with the Nation’s Economic Crisis (August 10, 2009) By sharing the results of several national and state-specific surveys, this report offers nonprofit leaders alternative strategies to face financial challenges head on and make bold decisions on behalf of their nonprofits.
