Washington, DC - The National Council of Nonprofits, the network of state and regional nonprofit associations serving more than 20,000 member organizations, today announced the promotion of Rick Cohen to Director of Administration and Operations. He will have the primary responsibility for the daily operations of the National Council, including finance, human resources, and technology.
Since joining the National Council in 2005, Cohen has fostered the transfer of knowledge among the National Council's state association members, whose members in turn include more than 20,000 nonprofits across the country. He was instrumental in establishing the Nonprofit Congress, including its watershed national meeting in 2006. In November 2008, in response to the economic downturn, he developed the Nonprofit Economic Vitality Center, an online clearinghouse of information to help nonprofits survive and thrive during the economic downturn.
"For four years, Rick has been an indispensable leader in our network who has stoked the fires of the state associations to build a robust, vibrant network," said Tim Delaney, President & CEO of the National Council. "This promotion both recognizes his leadership and enlists his talents to strengthen the National Council's operations at a time when our network is more crucial than ever to nonprofits and the communities they serve."
Prior to his work for the National Council, Cohen served as Director of Communications for Vasquez for Congress and spent two years with the Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers. He received an executive certificate in nonprofit management at Georgetown University and a bachelor's degree in political science and public communications from American University.
