Tammie Smith is a long-term proponent for social change with a background in advocacy and journalism. Prior to joining the National Council as the Public Policy Associate in August 2011, Tammie was a Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellow. In this role, Tammie worked on anti-hunger policy and advocacy with Community Food Advocates in Nashville, TN and Feeding America’s national office in Washington, D.C., where she helped to lay the foundations for Feeding America’s first Policy Engagement and Advocacy Committee (PEAC).
Tammie graduated from Emory University with a bachelor's degree in philosophy. While attending Emory, she was an editor of the college paper, an intern at the National Geographic Society and an intern at the Emory University Office of Sustainability Initiatives.
