National Council of Nonprofit Associations

Thank you to all who participated in the National Council of Nonprofits' 2009 State Association Member Meeting and Lobby Day!

More than 80 state association leaders and valued guests joined us during our three-day event, which strengthened dialogue among members and created a powerful space to share knowledge and build partnerships.

Highlights from our history-making gathering included:

• An in-depth look at how to advance public policy and strengthen membership within the state association network;
• The kickoff to the National Council’s 20th year and plan for the future to further strengthen the core state association network and the sector;
• A discussion on the economy’s impact on the nonprofit sector with national expert Lester Salamon, who directs the Listening Post Project at Johns Hopkins University;
• A first-for-our-network meeting at the White House campus to discuss ways of building partnerships with White House leaders on issues affecting the nonprofit sector; and 
• More than 100 visits to offices of members of Congress for the second annual “Nonprofits Advocate!” Lobby Day on Capitol Hill.

This breakthrough event reiterated—to participants, the White House, and Congress—that the nonprofit sector is a major force in the economy and a vital resource not only for communities and businesses, but for policymakers as well. Continuing to foster collaboration and cultivate existing relationships will allow the nonprofit sector to leverage the full weight of its expertise at the national, state, and local levels.
